Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya land Golden Globe nominations

BLACK GIRL MAGIC: Issa is a favourite to win.

AWARD SEASON is in swing and the nominees for next year's Golden Globes were announced in Los Angeles yesterday (11 December).

Renowned Awkward Black Girl Issa Rae has been nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy for her role in the hit HBO series, Insecure.

28-year-old Londoner Daniel Kaluuya has also earned a nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category, for his leading role as Chris Washington in box office smash hit Get Out.

Following the announcement in Los Angeles on yesterday (11 December), Kaluuya spoke of being in 'shock and disbelief':

"What a surreal experience to be embraced by the community against innumerable odds. (...) Get Out was born out of the genius mind of Jordan Peele, to whom I will be forever grateful for believing in me and allowing me to help him tell a story so dear to him.

“A true once-in-a-lifetime experience. Salute to the cast, crew and King Peele.”

Best supporting actress in any motion picture — Mary J. Blige, Mudbound & Octavia Spencer, The Shape of Water
Best original song — "Mighty River," Mudbound (Raphael Saadiq, Mary J. Blige) & "The Star," The Star (Mariah Carey)
