James Toney named in Britain v USA heavyweight clash

TOP BILLING: James Toney (PA)

ORGANISERS OF the highly anticipated Britain v USA Prizefighter International Heavyweights have announced three-weight world champion James Toney is set to form part of the stellar line-up of hard-hitters.

The event takes place on November 14 at York Hall in Bethnal Green, east London, and its star billing is British Olympic hero Anthony Joshua.

Toney will be fighting for the first time in the UK in a remarkable career that has seen him claim world titles at middleweight, super-middleweight and light-heavyweight levels.

He is also famed for giving ringside fans great entertainment with outlandish antic before fights and stylish moves while trading blows with opponents.

Also confirmed to be taking part in next month’s transatlantic showdown are Sherman 'The Tank' Williams, Sam Sexton and Larry Olubamiwo.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said: “Word got out this morning that James Toney was in the line-up and it's already caused some reaction.

“Heavyweight Prizefighter is always the most exciting edition of the tournament and we are looking forward to selecting the final four participants.

“It's also great to have Anthony back in the capital as he continues his journey in the division and we expect a quick sell out for the November 14 event.”
