Kirk Franklin backs Orlando gay club victims against church

SPEAKING OUT: Kirk Franklin

AWARD-WINNING gospel star Kirk Franklin has slammed a church in Kansas after its members said they would protest the funerals of two men killed in a gay nightclub shooing in Orlando.

“So a church from Kansas called Westboro is planning on picketing the funerals of 2 men killed n the Orlando massacre? let me address," Franklin wrote on Twitter.

The respected artist didn’t mince his word when addressing the church’s leadership.

“Whoever your pastor it, he is the dumbest, most hateful ignorant man to ever lead ANY church. There is NO form of Godliness in this act..”

Westboro Baptist church congregation advertises itself as an openly anti-gay community and is known for its extremist methods including picketing funerals armed with offensive signs.

Forty-nine people died when suspected terrorist Omar Mateen, 29, stormed Pulse nightclub and began shooting people.

More than 50 people were also seriously wounded in the attack. Mateen was killed in cross fire with police officers at the scene.

Franklin has spoken openly about the need for Christians to abandon the dogma of religion and criticised the church for exacerbating the bad reputation the Christian community has and forgoing the message of love for a message of hate.

PICKET: Westboro church members held up these signs

“And a continuing issue of why the world sees us as hateful and judgmental. For the first time we get to show Christ’s unconditional love…” he went on.

The eight-time Grammy award winner told the anti-gay activists to bring their protest to his next performance.

He said: “You fill it with hate and disease PLEAS[E] PLEASE respond! Please show up to one of my concert protesting… PLEASE! We love Jesus, but…”

“Just pleas[e] come. This is a sad day for the faith I love….Read the ENTIRE bible, and let those parents bury their children. #WackChurch.”

In response to the massacre, the church issued an official statement saying: “God sent the shooter.”

It read: “No coincidence that God is smacking Orlando with grievous sorrow, killing your children with shooters and alligators, when you are about to belly up to ‘father’s day’! DON’T DO IT! Your faithless dads are to blame for your horrible sorrow.”

The group attempted to disrupt the funeral procession of Christopher Leinonen over the weekend (June 18), but were blocked members of the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre who used large ‘angel wings,’ props to create a barricade.

Police are still investigating the shooting that rocked the nation and the LGBT community and the world.
