LeBron James confirmed to star in Space Jam 2

SPACE JAM 2: LeBron James is confirmed as a member of the cast

LEBRON JAMES is set to star in Space Jam 2.

The follow up film to the 1996 live-action and animated hit starring Michael Jordan is taking shape.

In an Instagram post from James' Spring Hill Entertainment, the production studio behind the sequel, some details about the cast and those working on the film behind the scenes were revealed.

In addition to the announcement that Los Angeles Lakers basketball player James is on board, Looney Tunes animated character Bugs Bunny is unsurprisingly confirmed to return for the second instalment.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has been confirmed as an addition to the project. He will produce the film alongside Justin Lin, the director of Fast Five.

Terence Nance is the film’s director.

James told The Hollywood Reporter that he loved Coogler’s vision for Black Panther.

He said: “The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie.

“It's so much bigger. I'd just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”

Although the further details of the film are yet to be released, people are already getting excited about it.

Comedian Rae Sanni wrote on Twitter: “Space Jam 2 is about to be spectacularly black.”

ESPN journalist Ariel Helwani said: “I can’t recall the last time I went to a movie, but I will break that streak for Space Jam 2. Way too excited about this. That’s right, I said it.”

It has been reported that the film, which has been talked about for years, could begin shooting as early as next summer.

James’ role will be his first acting job since he appeared in Trainwreck.

Discussions over incorporating Jordan into the second film in the franchise have reportedly been taking place.

Rumours over James' involvement surfaced a few years ago when he signed a deal with Warner Bros.
