Levi Roots announces closure of Stratford restaurant

SHUT DOWN: Levi Roots has revealed he has closed his Stratford restaurant

LEVI ROOTS’ Stratford-based Smokehouse restaurant has closed today.

The TV chef and musician announced the closure of Levi Roots’ Caribbean Smokehouse on Twitter.

“SO SORRY! Unfortunately I have to announce my restaurant @levismokehouse is closing today! most dreadful thing is letting down my brilliant team, tried my utter most to avoid this but the party is over and all good things come to an end. So sorry to the customers too,” Roots tweeted.

The Caribbean Smokehouse website has also been shut down.

The news comes almost four years after Roots opened the restaurant in partnership with Eren Ali, the founder of Las Iguanas.

At the time, Roots said that the restaurant was part of his desire to bring the tastes of the Caribbean to as many people as possible, something he had wanted to do since he shot to fame after a successful appearance on Dragons’ Den.

“Now that we have built such a strong reputation for the “Levi Roots” brand, it feels like the right time for me to open a restaurant to give even more people the opportunity to enjoy genuine Caribbean cooking,” he said.

Roots, who celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday, has not publicly shared details for the reasons behind the closure.
