Lewis Hamilton pays tribute to Arsene Wenger

FAN: Lewis Hamilton is a longtime supporter of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger

LEWIS HAMILTON has paid tribute to Arsene Wenger, who is leaving Arsenal football club after 22 years.

Hamilton said that Wenger, the outgoing Arsenal manager, had invited him to train with club.

The Formula One star has been a fan of the north London club since he was five years old.

He said: “I always had great admiration for Arsene.

“For anyone to have commitment to a team and the loyalty he's shown, through all the ups and downs, through outside individuals saying negatives, positives, media saying positives, negatives, but to stay true to your values and continue to strive to what you believe in, I think he's really been awesome.”

Hamilton added: “While the team hasn't always been successful I really hope that he feels great about his time. I had the privilege of meeting him a couple of times which was actually pretty late in my career.”

The 33-year-old said has until the end of the season to take Arsene up on his offer to train with the players.

“He asked me to go and train with the team which I haven't been able to do yet. But he was always really welcoming and it's always cool to meet our team boss - I've been supporting them since I was five – so I really want to wish him all the best and I think his future is as bright as he wants it to be,” the world champion said.

Hamilton will race in this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.
