Lil Wayne's mother told him to quit school to focus on music


LIL WAYNE has revealed that his mother pulled him out of school when he was 14 so he could focus on his music career.

The 30-year-old Cash Money Rapper appeared on the season premiere of Katie Couric’s talk show Katie in America, to discuss his health, his time in prison, family, and his childhood.

Explaining why his mother took him out of school he said: “I had an album out, I was platinum already, and I was still trying to go to public school.

"She saw me getting ready for school one day and she saw me putting my gun in my backpack. She said, ‘You gotta bring that to school with you?’ And I remember I asked her, ‘You don’t want me to bring it?’ She thought about it. She said, ‘I do.’

"Two minutes later she walked back into the room and she was still on the phone and said, 'you don't go to school no more, you're getting a GED (General Educational Development) certificate.' I said okay.''

The rapper whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, took his mother's advice, obtained his GED and went to college.

Lil Wayne who has four children – Reginae, 15, Dwayne III, 5, and Cameron and Neal, both four, from four different relationships, said he did not regret his decision, but wanted his own kids to finish their education.

The rapper, also known as 'Weezy', admitted to having epilepsy after suffering from a number of seizures earlier this year.

On one occasion, he nearly died after his heart rate dropped to ''30 per cent'' and led to a week in intensive care.
