Liverpool ace displays Brazilian flair at last

PROGRESS: Fabinho

IT MAY have taken him a while but Liverpool new boy Fabinho is beginning to show rich promise. The defensive midfielder - real name Fábio Henrique Tavares - showed great qulaity during Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Cardiff at Anfield on October 27.

The Brazilian had only been in the starting line-up twice this season, and his first in the Premier League since his £43 million summer transfer from Monaco.

But with injuries to Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita, the Brazilian showed his quality. His display against the Welsh team followed on from his effort as Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Red Star Belgrade 4-0 in the Champions League just days earlier, leaving no doubt about what he can bring to the Liverpool side

The 25-year-old looked strong in both attack and defence and rarely put a foot wrong the entire match as City, and was always alert to where his back four was, producing probing passes for attacking players.

Fabinho was involved with the build-up to Sadio Mane’s goal and setting up Liverpool’s third goal scored my Mohamed Salah, which saw the Egyptian become the quickest player to reach the 50 goal tally in Liverpool’s history.

It was an impressive performance by Liverpool, who are starting to get into their rhythm after a couple of uneasy performances.

Liverpool Salah scored the opener from close range after Mane’s shot was parried in the ninth minute. The Reds’ second came in the 66th minute when Mane wriggled his way through the Cardiff defence to unleash a thunderous shot across goal to score.

A Liverpool defensive blunder saw Cardiff pull a goal back on 77 minutes. David Junior Hoilett put a searching ball into the Liverpool box which was deflected into the path of Liverpool ‘keeper Allison Becker. Becker seemed to have it covered until Cardiff forward Callum Paterson nicked it passed the former Roma player.

Late goals from Xherdan Shaqiri - and another from Mane - made sure Liverpool remain unbeaten after 10 Premier League matches.
