London to be warmer than Ibiza over Bank Holiday weekend

HOT: London weather to reach record high this weekend

LONDON IS set to experience extremely warm weather hotter than Ibiza over the bank holiday weekend.

However, it won't last long, coming to an end on Sunday night with "torrential" downpours and thunderstorms, forecasters have warned.

The Met Office has predicted temperatures will reach 27C in London on Friday afternoon, as thousands embark on journeys out of London for the long weekend.

And the mercury could soar over 30C on Saturday – setting new records for May temperatures.

By Sunday night the capital will be hit with "intense showers" and thunderstorms which are expected to last through Bank Holiday Monday.

The Met Office issued a weather warning for Sunday and Monday, predicting “torrential downpours” which could lead to flooding.

The website reads:

“There are early indications that this could result in some disruption, with sudden flooding of roads, transport routes, homes and businesses possible.”

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said:

"It is possible we could break the record for May as we expect temperatures to rise into the low 30Cs by the weekend.

“Saturday will start off well but as we get into the afternoon there is a chance of thundery showers, which are set to worsen on Sunday.

“This will carry into Monday where heavy showers are predicted with temperatures falling to 22 degrees,” he added.
