London Bridge casualties after suspected terror attack

ATTACK: Police and ambulance crews could be seen on London Bridge

REPORTS ARE emerging of at least seven people dead and several casualties following an incident involving a vehicle and a knife in the London Bridge area of the capital.

Police say armed officers responded to reports of a van hitting pedestrians on the bridge in central London.

The Met Police said officers were also at Borough Market nearby responding to reports of stabbings.

Witnesses told of bodies 'strewn' on the road at the landmark in central London. One of the casualties is reportedly a police officer.

There are also unconfirmed reports of gunfire on Southwark Street.

One witness said she saw three people with what appeared to be their throats cut on London Bridge amid the 'utter chaos'.

Others said they saw three men jump out of the van and began 'randomly stabbing people' along Borough High Street with 12-inch long knives.

The car, believed to be a B&Q vehicle, was reportedly veering in an 'S shape' at 50mph across the bridge and has driven towards the Shard and is south of the river.

The drivers have not been caught.

Footage from the scene shows police officers shouting 'Clear the scene now!' as panicked pedestrians flee.

Police are searching for three suspects.

Downing Street said: "The prime minister is in contact with officials and is being regularly updated on the incident at London Bridge."

Transport for London said the bridge has been closed in both directions due to a "major police incident".
