London Lions star returns to Brixton Recreation Centre

HERO: Justin Robinson

LONDON LIONS play Glasgow Rocks tonight (March 16) at 7.30pm in a mouthwatering showdown which will take place at the Brixton Recreation Centre in south London. The match will see the the homecoming of Lions point guard Justin Robinson.

Robinson played across Europe for six years after a stellar American college career at Rider University. Robinson also played for GB at EuroBasket 2013, before returning to his home town last September to play for London Lions, the capital’s only Premiership team.

Robinson is an alumnus of Brixton Topcats, learning the game under legendary coach, Jimmy Rogers, and he sees the chance to play in front of the Lions fans on a court where his pathway in basketball all started as a significant highlight of his career.

Robinson said “Playing at Brixton Rec on the will be special for me. It’s where I started as a nine-year-old boy, a place that is still near to my heart. A family, my community, it really was everything to me growing up. It will be great to play in front of the kids and some old faces”.

Rogers is looking forward to seeing his protégé back at Brixton. “Of course Justin has never left because he is always here in the summers working camp speaking to the kids here, he’s an exceptional talent, great humility and it’s been a pleasure to coach him, his story is an inspiration to a lot of our youngsters. Brixton has done well for these young men as well as many boys and girls who have come through our club.”

Lions coach, Vince Macaulay added: “Jimmy is a father to me and kept me straight, I couldn’t have written a better script really than for us to go and play in the Rec, I owe everything I’ve done in basketball to him.”

This is a once in a life time opportunity to see Robinson play on his original home turf - fans are urged to buy their tickets as seating availability is limited.
