Lukaku is best teen scorer in over a decade

TOUGH NUT: Sunderland's Titus Bramble gives Lukaku a kick while airborne

ROMELU LUKAKU is the highest scoring teenager in the Premier League for 14 years since Michael Owen for Liverpool in 1999.

The Belgium wonder-kid has ran riot this season netting a sensational 13 goals for his on loan club West Bromwich Albion. His latest goal came against Swansea City in a 2-1 win at the Hawthorns.

Former Liverpool striker Owen scored 18 goals in 1999 having bagged the same amount of goals the previous year, just falling short of record holder Robbie Fowler, who scored 23 goals in 1995.

The 19-year-old’s 40th minute strike on Saturday, took him level with Nicholas Anelka, who scored 13 goals for Arsenal in 1999 before moving to Real Madrid.

The West Brom striker has played a pivotal role in Steve Clarke’s team this season, scoring in his last three games for the baggies against Liverpool, Sunderland (twice) and Swansea on the weekend.

The same cannot be said about Lukaku’s team-mate at parent club Chelsea, as Fernando Torres has failed to score a single goal for this blues in 2013.

Chelsea, who signed Demba Ba from Newcastle in January, are in desperate need of goal scorers this season, yet interim manager Rafa Benitez decided against recalling Lukaku back from his loan spell.

However, with each passing goal, it seems more and more likely the Belgian teenager will go back to west London in the summer.
