Man seriously injures 5-year-old over dumpling

A MAN who beat and injured his five-year-old stepson for taking bites out of his dumplings before he had a chance to eat them, was convicted of child abuse.

According to the Jamaican Star Dalry Palmer, 30, of Old Harbour, St Catherine, was given a two-year suspended sentence in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Aug 18).

The labourer is believed to have arrived at the home of his lover for dinner and found that the child in question had taken bites from several dumplings on his plate.

He is then believed to have attacked on the schoolboy, leaving him with severe injuries.

The child's grandmother, Jennifer Senior, was also arrested and sentenced to 300 hours community service for failing to report the matter, it has been reported.

Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green reportedly told Palmer that he had committed a "serious act" when she sentenced him.
