Mel B hit with £270,000 divorce bill

MEL B has finalised her divorce from Stephen Belafonte, bringing an end to a bitter battle.

A Los Angeles judge ordered the former Spice Girl to pay £270,000 of her ex-husband's legal fees in addition to a monthly sum of £3,800 in child support for their six-year-old daughter, Madison.

The marriage ended in 2017, with ‘Scary Spice’ accusing Mr Belafonte of being physically and emotionally abusive towards her and her children.

Mr Belafonte denied the allegations that were later dropped during the court case. However, the couple agreed to stay 200 yards away from each other after Judge Mark Juhas dismissed a restraining order that they had each tried to enforce on the other.

After the hearing, Belafonte excitedly said in a video: “Getting out of my horrific, disastrous divorce court right now. Once again, all allegations dismissed.”

He continued: “I went through a long year-and-a-half, two years of almost being asked to give up the rights to my daughter, financial things. And you know what? I stuck with it. There was nothing but lies told about me. That means, that guess what? It’s settled, done.”

The parents, who have agreed to share custody of Madison, will make exceptions for her school events, including extra-curricular activities and teacher conferences.
