Mercy Brown proves to be a record breaker

WEIGHT WATCHER: Mercy Brown in action

GREAT BRITAIN'S Mercy Brown secured three new British records at the recent 2015 IWF World Junior Weight Lifting Championships in Wroclaw, Poland.

World Class Programme athlete Mercy, who is funded by UK Sport and the National Lottery, achieved lifts of 96kg in the snatch and 121kg in the clean and jerk, totalling 217kg – setting three new British senior records in the women’s 75kg+ category and adding to Mercy’s existing records in the 75kg weight class which she achieved at last year’s World Senior Championships.

Brown finished in eighth place in the women’s 75kg+ A category, just 2kg short of equalling the total lifted by Japan’s Michika Shimamoto in seventh place.

“Huge congratulations to Mercy – it was a very competitive category comprising the best young weightlifters in the world so for Mercy to finish where she did – and to secure three new British senior records along the way – is a tremendous achievement,” said Ashley Metcalfe, British Weight Lifting CEO.

“Mercy has really kicked on in the last 12 months and her results are testament to her hard work and dedication in training; the British Senior Championships are now less than two weeks away and Mercy will be going into these with a lot of confidence off the back of her performance in Poland – we’re looking forward to seeing what the competition will bring next weekend!”
