Michelle Obama officiates couple’s wedding

OFFICIATING: Michelle Obama's talents know no bounds

MICHELLE OBAMA has officiated the wedding of a couple in Chicago.

The former US first lady helped the bride and groom tie the knot last Saturday.

A video of Obama taking the couple through their vows was uploaded to Instagram by a woman who was a guest at the nuptials.

In the video, which has now been deleted from Instagram, Joel Sircus and Stephanie Rivkin can be seen at the end of the aisle holding hands in front of Obama.

Obama can be seen wearing a long black robe and heard reciting the vows before the bride repeats after her.

The bride, Rivkin, is closely linked to the Obamas.

Rivkin is the daughter of Robert S Rivkin, the deputy mayor of Chicago and Cindy Moelis, who served as director of the president’s commission on White House Fellowships under Barack Obama.

In addition to her officiating duties, since leaving the White House almost two years ago, Obama has been keeping busy.

Recently she has been urging Americans to register to vote in the mid-term elections coming up in November.

She told a crowd gathered at a high school in Las Vegas at the weekend: “We get the leaders we vote for. We get the policies we vote for. And when we don’t vote, that’s when we wind up with government of, by and for other people.”

She also said: “Believe me, I am frustrated too...I am sick of all the chaos and messiness of our politics. It’s exhausting, and frankly it’s depressing, so I understanding wanting to shut it all out...but democracy continues with or without you.”

Obama was speaking at the voting registration drive, When We All Vote.
