Michelle Obama recruits Missy Elliott for girl power anthem

DOING IT FOR THE GIRLS: First Lady Michelle Obama

FIRST LADY Lady Michelle Obama has released a star-studded girl power anthem featuring some of the most talented songstresses.

Though the First Lady did not lend her own vocals to the inspirational track, she did enlist the help of pop talents like Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland, Zendaya, Janelle Monae, Lea Michele, Missy Elliott, Chloe and Halle, and Jadagrace.

The song, called This Is for My Girls, was written by Diane Warren and produced by AOL's MAKERS, a digital platform showcasing the stories of women.

Warren's previous credits include I Don't Want To Miss A Thing and Un-Break My Heart.

"It's kind of like We Are the World meets Lady Marmalade with these strong voices and strong women," Warren told Billboard. "When was the last time you heard a song like this or a record that had this many amazing divas on it? I'm really proud."

Proceeds from the single will go to the White House's female education initiative, Let Girls Learn.

"We haven't had an anthem like this in a while," Warren added. "I envisioned the record being with all these different women, never just one girl singing on it. With Kelly Rowland on it, it's almost like an updated Destiny's Child record. I think it can be a huge worldwide anthem. I hope it becomes that."
