STUDENTS AT Holyhead School in Handsworth are celebrating another record-breaking performance in this year's GCSE results.

The school, in Milestone Lane, was delighted to announce that once again students have broken all previous GCSE performance records for the seventh year running.

Some 63 percent of the school’s Year 11 cohort gained the benchmark of 5A*to C grades including English and Mathematics when the results were announced recently, with just over 90 percent gaining 5 A* to C grades overall.

Particular congratulations went to a number of students who have achieved remarkable results, including Daniel James with 14 passes including 3 A*/A and Jerome Brooks who gained 12 passes including 1 A*-C.

Overall students gained 242 A*/A grades – a remarkable achievement. The school’s points score also increased by over 100 points to 506.

Holyhead converted to Academy status on August 1 and its Principal, Martin Bayliss, said he was delighted with their first set of GCSE results.

He said: “Combined with excellent A level results last week, this is exciting news for the whole community.
“There has been enough demonising of young people in recent weeks but this news should provide a much deserved lift for everyone, proving that the students of Handsworth and Soho are industrious, ambitious and full of high hopes for the future.”
