Mothers of Stephen Lawrence and Trayvon Martin to meet

UNITED IN GRIEF: Doreen Lawrence and Sybrina Fulton

THE MOTHERS of murdered black teenagers, Stephen Lawrence and Trayvon Martin, will meet in London tomorrow, it has been reported.

Doreen Lawrence and Sybrina Fulton, who are united in grief following the brutal killings of their young sons, one stabbed, the other shot, are expected to meet at the Stephen Lawrence Centre in Deptford, south-east London, according to ITV News.

Stephen, 18, an aspiring architect, was stabbed to death by a gang of youths in a racist attack on April 22, 1993 in Eltham, southeast London. Gary Dobson and David Norris were convicted of the killing - 19
years later.

Trayvon, 17, was shot dead in Florida three months ago by self-styled neighbourhood watchman, George Zimmerman, as he made his way home from a local store on February 26.

Martin’s parents, Sybrina and Tracy Martin, are coming to the United Kingdom to say thank you for the support they have received from the British public since their son was killed.

Among the messages of sympathy, was a letter from Doreen Lawrence.

Mrs Lawrence will welcome Mr and Mrs Martin at the centre in Deptford - which bears her son's name. She will then take them up to Eltham, to the bus stop where Stephen was attacked, and to the memorial, which remembers his life.
