Murder victim named as Peckham local, 24 years old

TRAGIC LOSS: Ernest Kalawa was in his early twenties

DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING the murder of a man in Peckham have today named him as 24-year old Ernest Kalawa from Southwark, south London.

Enquires continue and detectives continue to appeal for witnesses and information.

A 23-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday afternoon has now been bailed to a date in early April.

On Friday, 30 December 2016 police were called at approximately 5.30pm by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) to reports of a man stabbed outside Deerhurst House on Haymerle Road, SE15. Police officers attended alongside LAS and London's Air Ambulance.

The 24-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and formal identification has now been completed. A post-mortem examination held at Greenwich Mortuary on Sunday gave cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Lee Watling of the Homicide and Major Crime Command. Detectives would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Haymerle Road at the time who may have information that will assist the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the assault, or moments leading up to it, is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4205 or via 101.
