New Year’s Eve: 5 makeup ideas to help you make an impact

ALL THAT GLITTERS: Whether you want to shine or stay understated this New Year's Eve, we've got you covered

NEW YEAR’S Eve is almost upon us! However you plan on bringing in 2019, if you want to nail your look for watching the fireworks in London, partying the night away or just chilling indoors, here are some makeup ideas that will inspire you to do just that.

From the classic winged eye to a bold red lip, we’ve scoured some of our favourite beauty Instagram accounts to bring you five looks that will help you make an impact.

Regal red lip
Many people’s New Year’s resolutions will centre on them believing in themselves more and nothing says confident like a bold lip. Give the classic red lip an update worthy of taking you into 2019 by following in the footsteps of celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath. Her velvety red looks so regal on model Leomie Anderson. Rocking red is all about finding the one that compliments your skin tone and for the royal look, opt for a deeper shade.

Classic winged eyeliner
Some find achieving the perfect winged eyeliner tricky but there are plenty of tips and tricks to getting it right, which you can find all over the internet. This staple eye makeup look is always a showstopper. It’s perfect if you want to keep your makeup simple but simultaneously make a striking impact.

Glam up with glitter
The festive season is all about the sparkle. We wear it on our clothes, it decorates our homes and even our food. While glittery makeup for New Year’s Eve is always a popular choice, it can still be a stunning standout look (see Jackie Aina below) and it often requires minimal effort to achieve. If you don’t have a steady enough hand for a wicked winged liner look, then this is a great option. And if you’re a winged liner pro, pop some glitter into your inner eye area for an added touch.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with a glittery gloss on your lips, too. Double up with sparkly lids or pair with one of the other eye makeup ideas. Fenty Beauty show us how it’s done.

Smokey eye step up
The sultry blended style is ideal for an understated New Year’s Eve eye. If you’re outfit is doing most of the work and you just want a low-key look to compliment it, go smokey. If you want to up the ante, go heavy on the black like Zoe Kravitz, below, or add a pop of colour by using a coloured eyeliner on the inner rim at the bottom of the eye or by swapping out the usual grey and black for another shade combo.

Faux naturel
“Natural” makeup looks are all the rage and they’ve been made easier to achieve thanks to improved foundation ranges that cater to black skin. Whether you’re literally going makeup free or just want to look like you are, this look can make a big statement.

Make like Lupita and go "faux naturel" by keeping your look tonal. You’ll need a nude lip or clear gloss, brown eye makeup and your favourite foundation and concealer.
