Nick Cannon fires off at Piers Morgan on Twitter

TWITTER BEEF: Nick Cannon and Piers Morgan provided some Sunday afternoon entertainment with their war of words on Twitter

NICK CANNON and CNN presenter Piers Morgan have landed starring roles in the latest Twitter beef.

The pair locked horns on the popular microblogging site yesterday afternoon (Oct 22) after Morgan, who is known for unapologetically speaking his mind, told Cannon he had 'a lot' of work to do before he reached similar levels of success as actor George Clooney.

Cannon, who has dabbled in rapping, presenting and acting throughout his career, innocently tweeted: "Just watched a documentary on George Clooney. INSPIRED! Got a lot of work to do [sic]."

Morgan then responded: "Yes....a LOT"

"@NickCannon you've only achieved one genuinely admirable thing in your life Nicholas - somehow persuading @MariahCarey to marry you [sic]," he added.

The heated exchange prompted the entertainer, who in the past has admitted to having "little beefs" with Morgan, to launch an equally scathing attack on the Piers Morgan Tonight host.

"Oh @piersmorgan I accomplished more by the time I was 17 than you have your entire ... What are you 75 now? LOL [sic]," Cannon retorted before adding "@piersmorgan Very true indeed Ol' Chap![sic]," Cannon wrote.

Cannon, who is the host of America's Got Talent - a televised talent show of which Morgan is a judge - has been in the entertainment industry since he was 8. He also manages his own record label and is the chairman of TeenNick, an American televison network aimed at teenagers.

He married singer Mariah Carey in 2008.
