Nicki Minaj added to Hackney Weekender line-up

NICKI MINAJ will join rapping heavyweight, Jay Z on stage at Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend later this month, it was announced today.

It will be the first time The Your Love star has performed live in the UK since her meteoric rise to fame in 2009, a year before the release of her debut studio album, Pink Friday.

The 29-year-old joins a star-studded line up on Saturday June 23, including Tinie Tempah, Leona Lewis, Flo Rida and, to name a few, who will perform over the highly-anticipated weekend.

A BBC insider said: “Nicki is one of the biggest stars on the planet right now. It’s great that she has chosen Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend as her first UK gig of the year. I am sure she’ll have a few surprises up her sleeve for her fans.”

BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend 2012 will be staged across two days, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June 2012, in East London's Hackney Marshes. The event is the biggest in the station’s history with 100,000 free tickets given away for the two days.

The event forms part of the London 2012 Festival and will feature over 100 UK and international artists performing on six BBC stages including the Radio 1 Main Stage, Radio 1Xtra Stage, Dance Stage, In New Music We Trust Stage and the BBC Introducing Stage
