Nigerian Christians condemn Islamic banking

VIEWS: Archbishop God-Dowell Avwomakpa (right) has spoken out

THE CHRISTIAN Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the Central Bank of Nigeria for introducing an Islamic form of banking, claiming the move was an attempt to turn the country into an Islamic state.

Speaking at a press conference, Archbishop God-Dowell Avwomakpa, Chairman of CAN stated “It has become increasingly obvious that the Islamic community has stepped up its determination to totally Islamize Nigeria as a nation.”

He added that Nigeria’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion, thought, and association, and that the introduction of an Islamic banking system was unconstitutional.
