Oprah received a standing ovation after honouring those who came forward in the wake of the Hollywood sex scandal, telling young girls that a “new day is on the horizon” when nobody will be a victim of sexual violence.

“I’ve interviewed and portrayed people who have withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning, even during our darkest nights," she said.

“So I want all the girls watching here now to know that a new day is on the horizon.

“When that new day finally dawns it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure they become the leaders to take us to the time where nobody has to say ‘me too’ again.”

Stars across Hollywood celebrated and thanked Oprah for her speech, including, Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep and more.

Following the ceremony, Oprah's partner, Stedman Graham, said she would “absolutely” run for US President if she had public backing.
