Oprah's TV network to target black audiences

OPRAH WINFREY will target 'black audiences' in a bid to save her struggling TV network, it has been reported

Executives at the entrepreneur's OWN network, which has reported low ratings since it launched in January, will capitalise on their popularity with African American viewers following the success of reality TV show Sweetie Pies, which follows the life of soul singer Robbie Montgomery and her family.

The network president Erik Logan has said that despite not wanting to aim their shows at 'one demographic', they are keen to grow their black audiences.

Logan told Adweek: "Anytime you have a program that pops like Sweetie Pies did, you start looking at what drove it."

He added: "And we saw that the African American audience really had a connection with that show. We're going to look at ways to nurture and grow that,

"The Oprah brand is very broad. How we translate that to the screen is the challenge we have."
