Pacific Ocean culture is focus of new art exhibition

AN EXHIBITION exploring the primacy of place and the integration of land and water, past and present, spiritual and the temporal is launching in east London this week.

Oceanic, Land and Sea; Gods and Men is celebrating 30 years of working with indigenous artists from around the world.

Open until November 24 at The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, Fitzroy Square, the exhibition will explore the rich and varied cultural heritage of the indigenous communities of the Pacific Ocean.

Through paintings, prints, sculptures, textiles, tapa cloths, basket-works and carvings by contemporary artists from across its breadth, including Mathias Kauage (Papua New Guinea), Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri (Australia) and Dennis Nona (Torres Strait Islands).
