Patrick Vieira departs from NYVFC to join Nice

NEW BEGINNINGS: Patrick Vieira

PATRICK VIEIRA has stepped down from his role as head coach at New York City Football Club to join French outfit Nice.

The 41-year-old took to Twitter where he released a humbling post that read: “After two and a half years as Head Coach of NYCFC, today will be my last day. I can honestly say that my time with the club has been absolutely perfect – both on a professional and personal level.”

He continued: “I love New York, and I will always have a NYCFC family here. I want to thank the amazing fans for all their support throughout to past few years; your passion and love for the team is what motivates everyone on a daily basis.”

The move sees Vieria succeed former manager, Lucien Favre of the Olympique Gymnaste Club (OGC), Nice.

New York City FC Vice Chairman Marty Edelman spoke of Vieira’s leadership skills and his first-time managerial career.

Edelman said: “Khaldoon and I have been fortunate to know Patrick since he joined City Football Group in 2010. After being one of the most revered and successful players in the world, it has been a pleasure for us to watch his transition into coaching.”

“Patrick has been a fantastic role model at NYCFC and a true leader on and off the field. We know that leaving the club has been a difficult decision for him but we understand his choice to return to Europe where he spent his whole playing career.”
