Paul Gascoigne fined for racist 'joke' about black man

FINED: Paul Gascoigne

FORMER ENGLAND footballer star Paul Gascoigne has been fined for racially aggravated abused after a "joke" he told during a show.

He was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay a further £1,000 in compensation to the victim.

Gascoigne, 49, made the comment during An Evening With Gazza in Wolverhampton on 30 November 2015.

According to reports, the charge related to a remark the former England midfielder made about a black security guard, who was in a darkened part of the stage. Gascoigne allegedly said: "Please could you smile so I can see you."

At Dudley Magistrates' Court today (Sept 19), the ex-player, who lives in Dorset, admitted using "threatening or abusive words or behaviour".

He changed his plea to guilty today, before the first witness was called.
