CRASH: A plane from Hewa Bowa's fleet came down in bad weather

MORE THAN 50 people have died following a plane crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo today (July 8), it has been reported.

It is not yet known where the plane, which came down in Kisangani, had flown in from or what type of aircraft from from the fleet of Congolese airline, Hewa Bowa, was involved.

A spokesperson for the airline said that the plane, carrying 112 people had tried to land in bad weather when it encountered some difficulties.

"The crash happened about 200 metres from Kisangani airport during landing in heavy rain. We have already removed 40 survivors," government spokesman Lambert Mende said.

So far 40 survivors have been pulled from the wreckage, but Mende said "the rescue operations are continuing."

Hewa Bora is a private Congolese airline that flies from the capital, Kinshasa, to the central city of Kisangani and other destinations. It has eight planes in its fleet.
