Police appeal for witnesses in murder of pastor’s son

POLICE ARE appealing for witnesses and information after the son of a pastor was chased and fatally stabbed by attackers as he walked home from a friend’s house yesterday (June 29).

Police said the 18-year-old, identified in local news reports as David Headlam, died in a London Hospital after being found with stab wounds in a neighbourhood in Harlesden, north London around 1.10am on June 29.

Detective said: ‘At this stage it is believed the victim was walking home from a friend's house when he was approached in Park Parade by two black males wearing hoodies and armed with knives. They chased him down Sellons Avenue and into Drayton Road where he was stabbed. The suspects made off in a vehicle. There is no further description of the suspects or vehicle at this stage.’ They added: ‘Officers would particularly like to speak to any witnesses to the chase or attack or anyone who may any other information.’

Neighbours told London Evening Standard how they tried to save the youngster who was bleeding heavily as he sought help from nearby houses. But their efforts were sadly in vain. David later died from a severe loss of blood from a stab wound in his thigh, a post mortem showed.

Latham Noble, who has lived in the street for two years, told the Evening Standard : “I heard shouting and looked out of my window. I saw the guy crossing and stumbling towards the house and fell. He was trying to get away; he was traumatised and was trying to get help. “By the time I got outside my neighbour was with him on the doorstep. The lady who lives there was quite hysterical, at first she thought it was her son. She brought out some towels and I was holding his leg putting on pressure. Then the armed police came. It’s so sad, so tragic and such a waste of life, no one deserves to die like that.”

Police said they ‘retain an open mind about the motive for this attack.’ They said they were not linking it to any other incidents including a shooting and another stabbing that happened in Harlesden over the weekend.

In the meantime, tributes have been coming in for David, who is believed to be the son of Bishop Alonzo Headlam of World Vision Apostolic Church Of Jesus Christ in London. One friend wrote on Instagram : ‘Still can’t believe this. Rip to David Headlam…You will be missed by many…In the arms of the angel, fly away from here. I know you are in good hands now. We will all miss you. Rest in peace.’
