AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING the murder of a successful Rwandan model have named a suspect and appealed for anyone with information about her death to come forward.

Alexia Mupende was found dead in her parent’s home in the country’s capital, Kigali. She had been stabbed.

"It was around 7.30 pm local time, her body was found on the bed. The suspect is the family's domestic help or house boy, his name is [Antoine Niyireba]. Police are still looking for him," CNN reported police spokesman John Bosco Kabera said.

Mupende, who was 35 years old, was due to get married next month, local media publications have reported.

Police have called on those with any information about her death or those who may be responsible to get in contact.

After the news of Mupende’s death spread, mourners gathered at the family home to pay their respects.

Tributes from fans and famous friends have poured in for the model, who was also the manager of a fitness centre, Waka, in Kigali.

In a statement Waka said: “Our dearest friend, colleague, trustee and carrier of integrity Alexia Mupende passed away last night. We send all our thoughts and love to her family and friends.

“We thank you for every moment and your legacy and impact will always be with your WAKA family.”

Rwandan DJ Deejay Pius tweeted a picture of himself with Mupende and captioned it: “At this point one can only ask why God. I was excited and waiting for your wedding day. My heart is very heavy.”

On Wednesday, police responded to reports that a suspect had been caught.

“We wish to clarify that the suspects in the murder of Alexia Mupende are yet to be apprehended. Kindly ignore the rumours circulating on social media,” they tweeted.
