Pregnant woman stabbed and robbed in east London

A PREGNANT woman was stabbed and then robbed as she got into a minicab in the early hours of Tuesday morning (Dec 11), police have said.

The victim, who is 20 weeks pregnant, was struck in her leg and her handbag stolen by a 'light skinned black male in his late teens'.

It is believed that suspect had been trying to rob the minicab driver moments before the 5.30am attack in Claredale Street. He turned his attention to the victim as she approached the vehicle.

The woman, aged 30, was pushed into the back of the car. Despite the victim telling him that she was pregnant, the man continued his attack, stabbing her in the leg and making off with her handbag.

The suspect, of slim build and approximately 5'11" in height, made off from the scene on foot.

Despite there being no evidence of a bicycle, the suspect was wearing a cycle face mask which covered his mouth and nose.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries and discharged the same day. Her unborn child was unharmed.

Officers from Bethnal Green Robbery Squad are investigating.
