President of Supreme Court inspires Manchester women

THE FIRST female President Of the Supreme was invited as the 2018 WITLUK guest speaker.

Baroness Hale a former lecturer at the University of Manchester spoke at the event, which was attended by over 200 men and women from diverse backgrounds.

Founder of WITLUK Sally Penni, Award winning Barrister at Law for her work in diversity and Non Executive Director of Royal Exchange Theatre, said: "Manchester played such an important role in the Suffragette movement that we are delighted to celebrate with the first female president of the Supreme Court.:

Amongst Manchester’s finest were David Stockdale, HHJ Nicholls,Edith Conn JP, Nigel Pool QC, deputy high court judge Winston Hunter QC and many more from the Manchester legal community attended.

With a wide range of Ambassadors and barristers chambers and firms in attendance, this was one of Manchester’s premier charities.

Raising money for Charity with raffle prizes donated by Botanists, Khiels King Street, David Weyman, JMW and Realm recruitment, the glitzy event raised lots money for Breast Cancer Prevent, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Reign Part of Reclaim.

Next years dinner is already set with another excellent guest speaker in March 2019 when it will be 100 years since women were given the legal right to practice following the disqualification Act 1919.

In the mean time WITLUK Ambassadors Charlotte Percy from MCCallister family Law and Nicola Wilburn-Shaw, said they are looking forward to continuing with monthly professional development events which have a special emphasis on wellbeing.

In the words of their founder: "Our aim is to encourage professional development but also to encourage personal development, collaboration not competition."
