Ready for the Ethiopians

READY FOR THE WORLD: Farah in action in Birmingham recently

BRITAIN’S MO Farah is ready to knock three-time Olympic and 16-time world champion Kenenisa Bekele off his perch.

Double European champion Farah believes a strong performance at the Aviva London Grand Prix can provide the fuel to fire him to glory at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu later this summer.

The world’s leading distance runner will run the 5,000m at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on 5-6 August, in the hope of emulating his stunning performance at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix earlier this month.

“I never wanted to let myself get in the mindset of thinking these guys weren’t catchable”, said Farah when asked about the strength of Ethiopian distance runners and in particular, Bekele.

“You always want to think that it is possible, you always want to think positive. You want to learn from them and train with them to see what they’re doing.

“I’ve been training really hard and it’s really paying off. There have been some days when you’re tired and you just need to sleep, go home and rest.

“But the last eight months I have kept improving and getting faster and faster, and that’s the aim. But that’s what you’ve got to do. It’s not as easy as it looks.

Just this February, Farah announced he was upping sticks and moving across the Atlantic to set up camp with legendary coach Alberto Salazar in Portland, Oregon.

“Being away is good, you just concentrate on training and don’t worry about anything else.

“It all comes to down to medals really and that depends on what happens from now on until the Games – if I stay injury free, if I keep focused, if I keep progressing.
