Rihanna speaks on charity success

SUCCESS: Rihanna

STARS, SOCIALITES and more gathered in New York City to attend Rihanna's annual Diamond Ball - and the Bajan singer shared her excitement about the success of the event and what it means for her charity.

"(I'm so proud of) the reception and the respect," she told Entertainment Tonight. "And to have people show up every single year, and to have the crowd get bigger and bigger every time. And even the people that donate things for the auction, it just means a lot to me to see the growth and to see people really believe in our causes."

She explained she has always wanted to help those less fortunate since she was young, adding, "That's always been my instinct. It's been my nature and it's the way I was raised. Those are traits that have come down from my grandparents, Clara and Lionel, who the Clara and Lionel Foundation is named after, so it's always been in me."

The fourth annual Diamond Ball took place on Thursday (Sep 13.) at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. It benefits her Clara Lionel Foundation, a nonprofit organisation named in honour of her grandparents.

The 30-year-old looked stunning, dressed in a white lace jumpsuit with an oversized bow skirt by Alexis Mabille Couture and sparkled with luxury Chopard jewellery.

"It's the Diamond Ball so I kinda go crazy when I get to borrow (diamonds), and I don't have to pay for it," she added.

The event was hosted by Insecure actress Issa Rae and featured performances by Mustard and Childish Gambino.

Alongside the performances, guests also enjoyed an auction which included some lavish items, including a diamond anklet worn by Rihanna at the 2018 Met Ball, a Fenty Beauty holiday bundle, a trip to Las Vegas to see Mariah Carey's residency show, plus every Savage X Fenty item from the lingerie brand's autumn/winter '18 fashion show.

Celebrity guests included LaLa Anthony, Tiffany Haddish, ASAP Rocky, Meek Mill, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Ebonee Davis, Teyana Taylor, and Normani Kordei.
