Roses ready for African challenge

TEAM WORK: England are in action next month

AMA AGBEZE will captain England during next month’s Vitality Netball International Series against Malawi, which begins on November 24. The seasoned ANZ Premiership player took over the role for the Netball Europe tournament earlier this year.

The squad also includes sisters Kadeen Corbin and Sasha Corbin. Kadeen plays for Team Bath, winners of a record fifth Netball Superleague title in 2015. Her sister Sasha captains the Mavericks, based in Hertfordshire.

After making her debut at Netball Europe, 2017 VSNL Young Player of the Season Vicki Oyesola is included in the squad.

England coach Tracey Neville said: “With a number of players spending some valuable time with their club sides, it’ a fantastic chance for those coming in to perform on the biggest stage and really stake a claim for a place on the plane to Australia for the Commonwealth Games and looking further ahead to the home World Cup in 2019.

“It’s an exciting squad with some great combinations and we can’t wait to entertain the audiences in London and Birmingham next month. We look forward to the fantastic support we always receive from the Roses’ fans.”

All players will want to put forward their best performance for the chance to selected at the Netball Quad series in January, ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Series against Malawi will be the Roses’ last international series of 2017 before the team prepares to travel to the Gold Coast, Australia. The matches against the African nation will be played at the Copper Box Arena London on November 24 and 26 before the teams head to the Gentring Arena, Birmingham on November 29.
