Ryan Coogler or Meghan Markle could be Time Person of Year


RYAN COOGLER and Meghan Markle are both in the running to be named Time Person of the Year 2018.

The Black Panther and Creed director and the Duchess of Sussex were listed in the shortlist announced yesterday. The publication’s choice for the top spot will be announced today.

The Person of the Year recognises an individual or a group of people who have influenced the news and the world most in the past 12 months. That influence can be either positive or negative.

Past finalists have included the Silence Breakers of the #MeToo movement, Black Lives Matter activists, Beyoncé and Donald Trump.

This year, the 45th president of the US features on the shortlist again, so do the separated families, the relatives split up at the US border as they attempted to enter the country illegally. The Trump administration's handling of the situation resulted in thousands of the young children being held in government facilities and their parents being sent to prison.

Coogler, 32, the director of the third-highest grossing US release of all time, has been recognised for his phenomenally successful Marvel film Black Panther.
