Sign or leave - Simpson is warned

NEWCASTLE RIGHT-BACK Danny Simpson has been told by manager to sign a new contract or face being sold in the January transfer window.

Simpson, who still has 18 months left on his current contract with the Magpies, is said to be holding up for more money.

"My personal preference is for Danny Simpson to sign quickly, because he has got a lot of competition in that area," Alan Pardew told the Daily Mirror. "If we can't reach agreement, he'll have to move on - it's as simple as that.

"Really, all we're talking about is the figures and that is very, very difficult at this level. He wants to secure his future and contract negotiations are going on. So there is a situation there and he has not got long left on his contract," Pardew added.

The 24-year-old, who has been instrumental to Newcastle's stellar start to the season told the newspaper that he's certain his future is at Sports Direct Arena.

"It's not a problem, I'm happy here and Newcastle want me to stay," Simpson said.

"Contracts don't get sorted out in a couple of days, I'm sure it will get sorted in time. I'm happy and my family are here."

The defender is gearing up for a return to former club Manchester United, which he left two years ago, when the two teams meet this Saturday (November 26).
