MIDLANDS ENTERTAINMENT legend Sir Lenny Henry CBE added another accolade recently when accepting a Lifetime Achievement Honorary Award.

He was named as the winner at the 2018 Midlands Business & Community Charity Awards (MBCCA) at Villa Park in Birmingham. The Dudley-born comedian, actor and co-founder of Comic Relief said in a pre-recorded acceptance speech: “The Midlands is and always will be a special place to me. I wouldn’t be here without this place.

"The thing that warms my heart the most about this region is its people. Warm hearted, full of life and always happy to help. There’s nothing quite like a Midlander.”

Talking about the MBCCA, which is now in its third year, Sir Lenny added: “I am truly humbled by this award. I have seen the list of
the inspirational nominees, people, charities and organisations who have done some great things across the region. You are an inspiration to us all and represent the very best qualities of what it means to be from the Midlands.

“As an actor we are judged by performances where we are portraying someone else but to receive this award as myself is truly magical and I cannot thank the MBCCA enough for this fantastic accolade.”

The tribute was witnessed by more than 500 people, who had gathered to recognise some of the region’s most courageous people and unsung heroes in both the business and community sectors. Other winners included Alexandra Burke (Inspirational Honorary Award), Sheldon Fogarty of the Voice Against Crime initiative (Bravery Award), former international police officer of the year PC Andrea Reynolds (Lifetime Achievement Award) and television presenter Trish Adudu (Highly Commended for Contribution to
the Community).
