Solange unveils new performance art installation in LA

FRESH FROM her appearance at Beyonce's historic Coachella performance last Saturday, Latitude Festival headliner Solange has shared a new piece of performance art.

'Metatronia is an interdisciplinary performance piece and reflection featuring dance and sculpture'. The piece directed and created by the Cranes In The Sky singer has been unveilled at UCLA’s Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

The multi-discipline installation mixes dance and sculpture. According to an artist’s statement, “Metatronia explores the process, and mapping of creation. The piece is an exercise on following the intuitive force that guides us, helping us to create space, and silence the mind to create the work.

"Continuing my practices and interest in exploring the relationship of movement and architecture as a meditation, Metatronia centers around building frequency and creating charge through visual storytelling.”

The piece is directed by Solange and choreographed by Brennan Gerard and Ryan Kelly of Gerard & Kelly with assistance from Julia Eichten. Solange also scored the music to the piece alongside composer John Kirby. You can view the video here

The artist has also debuted performance art shows at the Guggenheim Museum and the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas and created an art installation for London’s Tate Modern museum.

This follows news that Solange was named the 2018 Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year and has revealed that she is currently working on new music.

She hits the UK this July as headliner of the Latitude Festival alongside the Killers and Alt J.
