SOULJA BOY has said he's "thankful to be alive" after he escaped a car accident following mudslides in Malibu.

He used social media to share the news with his fans on Sunday.

He tweeted: “Was involved in a very bad car accident last night due to a flash flood and mudslide.”

Quote tweeting an image of two cars stuck in mud and debris, the rapper said: “My car got stuck too almost went into the ocean.”

Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, said he was thankful to be alive after the incident.

He said: "I'm just thankful to be alive, I don't care about the car it's materialistic you can't take it with you when you're gone.”

The 28-year-old’s fans expressed their concerns and gratitude that he was alive and well.

One tweeted: “Sending you prayers for speedy recovery. So happy you survived your bad accident. Prayers up. Love your music.”

The rapper isn’t understood to have experienced any serious injuries as a result of the incident. But he did tweet that he had not been able to recover his car as of Sunday.

“I still haven’t got my car back it’s stuck in the water in the middle of the mudslide/flood,” he said.

The mudslides and flash floods were brought on by a powerful stormy weather in southern California.

The mud came off of areas of land that were affected by wildfires last year.

As a result of the extreme weather, authorities closed the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu in both directions.

Residents also lost power due to downed power lines but this has since been restored to many homes.

More rain has been forecasted to fall in the affected areas over the rest of the week, which could aggravate the mudslides. Snow is also predicted.
