Special event for International Women's Day at V&A

IN CELEBRATION of the exhibition 'Light of the Middle East: New Photography’ and 'International Women's Day' the Victoria & Albert Museum bring you a special women artists night for all on Friday March 15, 6pm - 9.30pm:

Artist Unseen: Women Facing Forward.

Join us for an evening encountering the hidden voice of women and see how they express this through their creativity. Explore issues of struggle, freedom, belonging, gender and rights of passage.

There is a lot going on this Friday evening, and half of it is FREE (first come first served) and other bits where you can PURCHASE A TICKET (£9, £6 concessions), so choose which you prefer and come on down and join in the celebrations and awareness activities including:

DJ Rita Ray (BBC Radio 3 & The Shrine Synchro System) in the Grand entrance with bar; Poet Malika Booker; the Light of the Middle East Exhibition Curator Tour; a viewing & talk on late 19th & 20th century Foreign Office photographs of women from Africa, Caribbean, China & India; filmmaker Danielle Smith and her film Beat of Distant Hearts and the plight & issues of the Saharawi People and the artists who live in the Western Sahara; Avril Horsford chairing a rising talent Pecha Kucha and panel; Esther Poyer and her ArtVoxPop Salon with open public discussions about belonging, freedom & rights of passage, and if you fancy something a bit more hands-on, then pop into Yemi Awosile's (RCA) Textile Mixed Media Workshop.
