Spurs ace is talk of the Town

TALENT: Cameron Carter Vickers

THE TRANSFER window may have closed but one footballer destined for bigger things in the near future is Cameron Carter Vickers. The Tottenham youngster, 20, has a contract with the north London outfit until 2020, seen as just reward after he made four first team appearance last season.

With first team chances at Spurs limited, the player and his representatives held discussions with the club and it was decided that it would be in the youngster’s best interests to go out on loan. His ability meant that there were a host of clubs keen to acquire his services. London neighbours Queens Park Rangers showed an interest but Carter Vickers and his advisors plumped for a move to Championship Sheffield United. It proved to be mutually beneficial move as the player raised his standards with more game time and featured in 17 games in total.

The Southend-born player and his representatives were surprised when Tottenham exercised a clause to bring him back to the club on January 14. The management team at Sheffield United were also surprised, the grapevine suggests that the Yorkshire club would have dearly loved to have kept him until the end of the season as they eye a place in the Premier League.

Carter Vickers’ representative told the Voice of Sport: “We didn't think it was advisable for him to go back to Spurs to simply sit on the bench. He is an interesting one as he has dual citizenship - British and USA - and he has featured for the senior USA side having chosen that option.”

Since returning to the Championship with Ipswich there has been three Premier League clubs, four Championship clubs and two European clubs taking an active interest in his progress with the view of acquiring his services at the end of the season should Spurs agree to sell.

Carter Vickers’ representatives added: “His performances have shown he can quite easily cope at that level.”
