Stephen Curry raises over $21,000 for Nia Wilson’s family

HELPING HAND: Stephen Curry

THE DEATH of 18 year old Nia Wilson has shocked the world.

The student was murdered after being stabbed to death on the BART train at MacArthur station, resulting in international discussion around the deaths of black women in America.

While many celebrities have spoke out after her death, including Tracee Ellis Ross to Anne Hathaway, basketball player Steph Curry and the National Basketball Players Association Foundation raised over $20,000 for Nia Wilson’s family.

During a live stream of Curry and his brother Seth at a basketball showcase, the father-of-three announced a link to donate to Wilson’s family. Wilson’s father, Ansar Mohammed, said Curry “was looking forward to spending time with us, me and my family.”

"I'm sure everybody is aware of the tragedy, the loss we've had in the Bay Area recently, with the life of Nia Wilson," said Curry, who encouraged the crowd to applaud the Wilson family.

"It was a senseless tragedy that should not have happened," Curry continued. "We want to use this game to dedicate to your family, to show how much we appreciate you guys for fighting through this loss."

Curry then encouraged those viewing the game via live stream -- over 78,000 have viewed the posting -- to make a donation, with all proceeds being given to the Wilson family.

By the end of the game over $20,000 had been contributed and donations are still being accepted on Curry's Facebook page.
