Sugar sweet on Sway

UNLIKELY SUPPORT: Alan Sugar used Twitter to help promote Sway's latest single

UK RAPPER, Sway, received endorsement from an unlikely source last week after businessman, Alan Sugar, retweeted his new single to over one million followers on Twitter.

The Little Derek star admits he was “pleasantly surprised” when the multi-millionaire, who had been name checked on the rapper’s latest release, took to his Twitter page to ask his fans their opinion on it.

Sugar tweeted: “What’s all this being me being mentioned in song, is that legal without asking me? Anyway are these lot any good?”

“I don’t know what it is with my records, it seems as though when I mention someone in a track they get to hear it,” the 28-year-old rapper told The Voice during an exclusive chat.

“I mentioned Alan Sugar on Level up and he tweeted the record asking what we were all about, it was kind of surreal, “ he continued

“When you’re in the studio and you’re writing lyrics and have a line like ‘I got the keys to the suite, you can call me Alan Sugar’ you never actually expect Alan Sugar to hear it.”

The north London star, who collaborated with UK singer, Lemar in 2008, said it’s becoming commonplace for celebrities to pick up on his songs.

“I mentioned Lewis Hamilton and Nigel Mansell in [my track] Still Speeding and I ended up meeting Nigel and working with him. I also ended up having a Twitter conversation with Lewis about the record.”

“Maybe if I had planned to get their attention through my music, it wouldn’t have worked out, but because I threw the lines out there as similes, it was listened to by the person I was talking about, and it’s a great thing.”
