T-Pain: Hate auto-tune? Don’t listen to my music!

US HITMAKER T-Pain has rubbished critics who feel he uses too much auto-tune in his music.

The US singer and rapper, born Faheem Rasheed Najm, is famed for using the voice-altering technique to enhance his vocals with computerized sound effects.

His heavy use of auto-tune has earned him criticism from those who feel the technique makes his music boring and repetitive. But the Buy You A Drink star says that anyone who doesn’t like his music should simply not listen to it.

“I don’t think there’s any such thing of over-using a technique,” the 26-year-old told The Voice. “It’s like saying, ‘you use too much echo.’ It’s just a technique.

“Auto-tune is fun; that’s the reason everybody else wants to use it. But if people feel I overuse it, don’t listen to my music, how about that?”

The Tallahassee-born artist once again demonstrates his love for auto-tune on his new album, Revolver; the follow-up to his 2008 album Thr33 Ringz.

Discussing his three-year hiatus from the music business, he said: “When I left, it was perfect timing. I didn’t want people to get bored or tired of me. So I decided to take time off to let people miss me and to give everybody else the chance to suck at auto-tune! Then I’d come back and wow the crowd again.”
