TEDxEuston to show the best in African entrepreneurship

INFLUENTIAL: Afua Osei will be just one of the inspiring speakers at this year's event

IN THREE weeks’ time, London will play host to some of Africa’s finest talent as they speak at this year’s TEDxEuston METAMORPHOSIS. TEDxEuston is a platform for African ideas, and for sharing the progress made on the continent and amongst its diaspora.

Now in its eighth year, and thanks to its consistently insightful and provocative talks about ideas impacting the continent, as well as the dynamism, creativity and inspiration which the event spontaneously generates, TEDxEuston has built its reputation as being one of the UK’s premier events on ideas impacting Africa.

TEDxEuston carries the theme of METAMORPHOSIS this year – reflecting the narrative of progress, change, and the opportunities for growth and transformation in Africa – and within its diaspora - from all aspects of society.

TEDxEuston Co-curator Ifediba Nwokedi-Greenstein explains: “Our theme for this year illustrates the progress and prospects for Africa, people living on the continent, and the diaspora. TEDxEuston provides a platform to evolve, to develop and to challenge misconceptions. We are excited to see how our speakers will illustrate their interpretation of this concept on the TEDxEuston stage this December.

"Each of them are at various stages of their incredibly evolving journeys and are fired up to share their African ideas worth spreading, stirring questions and most importantly, action. On the TEDxEuston stage, they will share how they engage, innovate and disrupt in Africa and amongst the diaspora.”

This year’s speakers include the founder of Sports for Education and Economic Development (SEED) and Vice President and Managing Director of NBA Africa, Amadou Gallo Fall. Co-founder of She Leads Africa, Afua Osei will also be speaking.

She is the first female head of government in Lusophone Africa, the former Prime Minister of Mozambique Luísa Dias Diogo. Other speakers include impact entrepreneur, and co-founder of the digital payment technology service Flutterwave, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji.

“The calibre of speakers at this year’s event has once again proved the prowess of the continent’s doers and thinkers who are positively shaping Africa’s future,” said Amina Abonde-Adigun, TEDxEuston co-curator. “We are confident that within the talks and the atmosphere of the entire event, people will be inspired to see how we can all play a role to engage responsibly with the continent.”

This year marks the return of TEDxEuston after a short hiatus in 2016. Ms Abonde-Adigun added: “It’s thanks to the dedication, and commitment of the thousands of TEDxEuston fans, not only in the UK and Europe but across Africa too, that we are delighted to be hosting another event this year.”

Previous speakers have included author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, entrepreneur and leadership expert Fred Swaniker, and CNN broadcaster Zain Asher. The Voice newspaper will serve as one of the media partners at the event.

TEDxEuston takes place on Saturday 2 December at Mermaid London and starts at 0930. Tickets are available via Eventbrite accessible via
