Time to shine for budding gospel stars

FINALISTS: Time2Shine finalists Rayon Nelson and Charlotte and Cara

DURING THE past few years there’s been a rising number of talent shows providing a platform for up and coming gospel talent.

Singers, of varying vocal ability and age, have entered these initiatives in their droves in the hope of getting recognition, a record deal and a platform from which to share the gospel message.

The talent quests that have been doing the rounds of late include Just Out of This World, Gospel Rock and the latest addition, the Time2Shine Gospel Talent Quest.

The brainchild of gospel singer Mercy B, Time2Shine was launched in May this year, and almost 200 people turned out for auditions held in four venues across London. With its prestigious judging panel comprised of leading figures in the UK gospel music scene including MOBO Award winners Yolanda Brown and Guvna B, the Time2Shine contestants have been whittled down to 16 finalists who will sing their hearts out at the finals taking place on July 16 at Westminster Central Hall.

Also performing at the finals will be US gospel star Helen Baylor, Lurine Cato, described as the the Queen of UK gospel and gospel rapper Faithchild.

The 16 finalists are: Barbara Omoruyi, Cara-Jane Lynch, Charlotte Lynch, David Balogun, Dee Ashley, Janelle Martin, lavinya Royes, Lawrence Rowe, Marlene Nwoye, Nadine Caesar, Neresa Maye, Rayon Nelson, Shaneeka Simon, Siobhan Omoruyi, and Victoria Chukwudum.

They are all Christians and come from a range of churches and denominations including KICC, the Assemblies of God, the Baptist Union of Great Britain, Elim Pentecostal church and the New Testament Church of God. And almost all have been involved in music ministry at their respective congregations.

The public have been following the talent quest journey on OH TV in the Time2Shine Gospel Talent series. It’s screened on Sundays and as it reaches its culmination viewers will want to know which of the talented finalists will win a place in the Time2Shine band, along with a management contract, international tour, a video and photo shoot and a range of promotional opportunities.

You can find out this Saturday (July 16) if you watch the Time2Shine final.
