TINA, A musical based on the life of pop legend Tina Turner, officially opens at the Aldwych Theatre in London this month on March 21. To celebrate the highly anticipated release, Life & Style obtained some exclusive behind the scenes images of the cast preparing for the legendary production.

The musical covers everything from Turner’s humble beginnings in Tennessee, to her rise as a global pop superstar and was written by Katori Hall, along with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. Choreography will prove vital in a show of this nature, and that responsibility has fallen to Anthony Van Laast, while Mark Thompson is in charge of set and costume design.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Phyllida Lloyd, Adrienne Warren & Katori Hall

Turner is one of the best-selling artists of all time, winning 12 Grammys performing for millions. Helping to bring her career to the theatrical stage are Nicholas Skilbeck, Bruno Poet and Neven Steinberg, the trio in charge of musical supervision, lighting and sound, respectively. Phyllida Lloyd will direct the show, packed full of all the star’s much loved songs, which sees Adrienne Warren in the title role. Jenny Fitzpatrick stars as the alternate lead, which will see her perform twice a week as Turner.

SHOWTIME: Simone Mistry-Palmer (Associate Choreographer) & Tina Turner

No story of Turner’s turbulent life and career would be complete without former husband Ike Turner, and that honour falls to Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, while Madeline Appiah will play Tina’s mother Zelma Bullock. The rest of the impressive cast will see the likes of Lorna Gayle, Tom Godwin, Francesca Jackson, Aisha Jawando Natey Jones and Gerard McCarthy feature in the production.
